Eid Dinner

On Monday evening we, the Fulbrighters, had an Eid Dinner that the Muslim Student Assosciation of Trinity University and our coordinator Dr. Habiba Noor organized.

We were allowed to invite our roommates and some friends we made. Unfortunately, I forgot to invite my roommate and the friend I invited could not make it. Therefore, I had the opportunity to speak with many different people. I talked with a cheerleader who told me how hard cheerleading is and how much muscle activity it requires.

I also talked with some African American girls and the conservation really felt as if I was in a movie – they talked like I taught some African American would talk. It was really great and I enjoyed the conservation.

The food was great and a nice change to the food at the Mabee. After eating Minh, Long and Nadin sat at the piano and made some music. They played (and sang) “Just the way you are”, “Someone like you” and many other popular songs.

Institute of Texan Cultures in San Antonio

Yesterday we visited the Institute of Texan Cultures in San Antonio. There were many different things that you could see and learn about. One of the main things I learned at the trip was that there were and still are so many and so diverse cultures in Texas.

There was a board showing a timescale for People in Texas where one inch is 70 years and there are so many different people. The information board with the name of the people also contains the projectiles they used and a map showing where they were populated.
The first people living in Texas where the Clovis. They lived 11.500 years ago in Texas. After that there were more and more people immigrating to Texas. The immigration reached it’s peak 2.000 years ago when up to 16 different people lived in Texas.

I really enjoyed the trip and had a great time there. 

Introduction

I am part of a Fulbright scholarship that gives German people with an immigration background the opportunity to visit the Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. We are a group of fifteen people and the second group of Fulbright scholars that are attending the Trinity University this year. We will be staying here from the 5. to the 25. September.

We arrived in San Antonio on Monday evening and now it is Friday afternoon. The first four and a half days of my stay have past so quickly and I still can't believe that I am in the USA. Unfortunately I came down with a cold on Wednesday and am just recovering from it. So I did not have the opportunity to visit different sport clubs or participate in other college activities yet, but I am hopeful that I can do that in the next two and half week of my stay.
